Battleship production: Who built the most battleships during the 20th century?*

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Great Britain (99)
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Germany (51)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| United States of America (40)
|||||||||||||||||||| France (20)
|||||||||||||||| Russia/U.S.S.R. (16)
||||||||||||||| Italy (15)
Japan (15)
||||||| Austria-Hungary (7)
||| Spain (3)
||| Sweden (3)

The constructors list becomes more skewed towards Britain and America, although Germany remains the second largest constructor, behind Great Britain. Chile disappears but it's battleship is already included in Britain's tally, as Britain also commissioned it as H.M.S. Canada during World War I. Argentina's Dreadnoughts were built by the U.S.A. and Brazil's by the U.K. Russia's Retvisan was bulit in the U.S.A. and Tsesarevich in France. Japan's Shikishima class were built by Britain, as was the Kashima class, Mikasa and Kongo.

* Includes battle-cruisers and some unusual designs that were more like battleship-type capital ships than cruisers. Such as Sweden's 'coastal battleships', Germany's 'pocket battleships' and Britain's virtually indescribable Courageous class.

** Does not include ships captured from Russia during the Russo-Japanese war, only new ships constructed/purchased.
