During the First World War Jean Bart was torpedoed by Austrian submarine UB14 on 21 December 1914 but survived. Late in the war Jean Bart served in the Eastern Mediterranean.

From 1936 she was used as a harbour training ship and was renamed Océan.

She was scuttled with the rest of the French fleet at Toulon on 27 November 1942 and was used by the Germans as a target.

Raised in 1944, she was scrapped in 1945.
