 Provence French super-dreadnought battleship
Provence Served in the Mediterranean during World War One and like her sister ships was modernised between the wars.
During the British attack on the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir Provence was damaged and had to be beached. She later returned to Toulon for repairs but was scuttled with the rest of the French fleet to prevent take-over by the Germans on 27 November 1942. The Germans raised to wreck to remove the main armament to be used in defensive shore batteries in 1943, but scuttled the hull again in 1944 to use Provence as a block-ship.
In April 1949 Provence was raised for the last time, for scrap.
